In his fourth start for the Dodgers, Pepiot completes five innings for the first time, allowing just one run on four hits. Home runs by Max Muncy and Mookie Betts gave him a lead.
LOS ANGELES — The first time Ryan Pepiot got the call to the big leagues his blood pressure must have spiked.Pepiot got the call Sunday that he was needed to make another spot start and afford the rest of the Dodgers’ starting rotation an extra day of rest between outings during this stretch of 20 games without an off day. Pepiot was in El Paso with Triple-A Oklahoma City. He packed up his gear and caught a plane to Los Angeles.
Pepiot, 24, completed five innings for the first time Tuesday, allowing one run on four hits in that time and looking much more comfortable than he had in his first three fill-in assignments. Staying in better counts allowed Pepiot to deploy his best weapon – his changeup. The Rockies swung at it seven times, missed five and put it in play just once on a weak liner to third base.
The Rockies got to Pepiot for their run in the second inning on a one-out single by Ryan McMahon and a double by Jose Iglesias.
