Aaron Wharton was diagnosed with a brain tumour when he was four years old and died in April.
Brain Tumour Research said this form of cancer kills more children and adults under the age of 40 than any other cancer, but only 1% of the national spend on cancer research has been allocated to brain tumours since records began in 2002.
Aaron was immediately transferred from the Countess of Chester hospital to Alder Hey Children's Hospital in Liverpool, under the care of the specialist surgical neurological team.Aaron was visited by Wrexham football players when he was ill in hospital"There's no targeted treatments for that particular mutation, so everything was kind of against him, even though we tried every treatment option that was available to us," she added.
"Hopefully, one day Brain Tumour Research can come up with an answer and try and save as many kids as they can in the future."The couple said they have met five other children within a 20-mile radius of their home all of whom have been diagnosed with a brain tumour."Out of those five, three of those children have now passed, Aaron being one of them," Nicola said.Nicola said: "I was shaking when I heard Ryan say Aaron's name, I was in disbelief.
