The float will feature animatronic animals and include the rhino and giraffe born at the park this year. The San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance had a float in the parade last year, but this is a first for Safari Park.
Frequent guests to the San Diego Zoo Safari Park may recognize some familiar sights on one of the Rose Parade floats this Monday.the baby giraffe Msituni and baby rhino Neville, which both made news when they were born at the park earlier this year.
All Rose Parade floats are covered with organic material, and some of the plants on the Safari Park float, including the tops of the crowned cranes, came from plants grown in the Escondido park. Peterson said she hopes the float will draw attention not just to the park itself, but to the conservation work it is doing to preserve southern white rhinos and other animals.
In an interview conducted by the San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance, float designer John Ramirez of Artistic Entertainment Services described the process of working on Rose Parade floats.
