Lower water bills coming for most SAWS residential customers

SAN ANTONIO — Starting next year, 83 percent of the San Antonio Water System’s residential customers will see their water bills go down. And all SAWS customers — including commercial — will see their wastewater bills decrease., which City Council approved unanimously Thursday, is to ensure that residential customers who use less water — including lower-income residents — are not covering the costs of customers who use more.

The charge will be $9 for customers who use less than 4,000 gallons of water a month and $11 for those who use more than 4,000 gallons. That’s down from $10.25 and $12.82, respectively.Customers using 9,000 to 11,000 gallons of water per month could see a bill increase of about 2 percent, while those using more than 12,000 gallons would see a hike closer to 7 percent or 8 percent.
