became the first candidate in 20 yearsEngardio, a supporter of both the school board and Chesa Boudin recalls, narrowly defeated District 4 Supervisor Gordon Mar 50.9% to 49.1% in a huge victory for the. Mar had opposed both recalls, and Engardio painted his opponent as out of touch with constituents who wanted the restoration of merit-based admissions at Lowell High School and a greater emphasis on public safety.

In an interview with SFGATE, Engardio talked about what he thinks the city’s recent election results mean, as well as his priorities as an incoming supervisor. The interview has been lightly edited and condensed for clarity. My campaign was largely a parent-powered campaign. Many families who live in the Sunset volunteered and joined my campaign. First, they worked with me on the school board recall, then realized that there are so many other things in the city that require better supervisors, so they pivoted to join my supervisor campaign.
