NHL: San Jose Sharks captain Logan Couture will not play Saturday against the Anaheim Ducks at SAP Center

SAN JOSE – The Sharks will be without Logan Couture on Saturday for their game with the Anaheim Ducks but are optimistic their captain will not have to miss any additional time.

Coach Bob Boughner said Couture, who suffered an upper-body injury against the Edmonton Oilers, could be available to practice Monday and will likely play Wednesday when the Sharks face the Arizona Coyotes to start a two-game road trip. Couture left Thursday’s game with the Oilers after he was struck in the upper body by a slap shot off the stick of defenseman Brent Burns.

Couture was standing near the crease next to Oilers goalie Mike Smith when he was hit by a Burns shot from just inside the blue line at the 9:47 mark of the second period. Couture went down on the ice for a few moments before he skated off under his own power and walked to the Sharks’ dressing room. Please check back for updates to this story.
