San Marcos Utility workers take skills to Texas Lineman’s Rodeo

Seven San Marcos Utility employees will test their mettle against teams from across the state Saturday at the 2022 Texas Lineman’s Rodeo in Seguin.

Competitors will show off trade skills like pole climbing, hurt-man rescues and equipotential grounding with arrestor change-out. San Marcos Utility apprentices Frankie Ritchie, Ryan Bustamante, Matthew Lichtenberger and Connor Harkin will fly solo in competitions against 130 other apprentices from utilities around the Lone Star State, according to a city Facebook post. Also, there will be a journeyman team — made up of Sammy Clark, AJ Longoria and Tyler Freeman — that will go up against 48 other teams.

Other utilities in the region including New Braunfels Utilities and Bandera Electric Cooperative will also be competing this weekend.
