University of Nevada February 18, 2020 in Las Vegas, Nevada.: Bernie Sanders will ask for a partial recount of the Iowa caucuses due to apparent mathematical mistakes and reporting errors, the campaign said Tuesday, two weeks after the caucuses descended into chaos after technical glitches caused the results to be delayed and called into question.

The recount request will come after the Iowa Democratic Party completed a partial “recanvass,” which involves checking the worksheets precinct chairs used to calculate votes and delegate counts. A recount in some precincts would instead reexamine the individual cards voters wrote their preferences on during the caucuses, according to the, a move the Sanders campaign is confident will swing the results in their favor.

The recanvass, which was released Tuesday, did not change the current delegate counts, but the party said it found errors in 29 precincts, three of which involved math errors on the caucus math worksheets Buttigieg by .08 points in State Delegate Equivalents, the metric used to determine the winner and allocate national delegates .has declined to name a winner because of the complications in the results, the state party reported that Buttigieg is narrowly ahead with 14 delegates to Sanders’s 12.

Sanders, though, is winning the popular vote and the final alignment count, which is tallied after caucus-goers who initially stood with a candidate with less than 15% of the vote choose another “viable” candidate to support. : “While it is clear that Sen.
