Trey Pulliam, Joshua Tomaic, Nathan Mensah and Tahirou Diabate also will be honored before Fresno State game

Aguek Arop will walk to center court at Viejas Arena with his parents and his local pastor for San Diego State’s Senior Night before Thursday’s game against Fresno State. He’ll be handed a framed No. 33 black jersey and hold it aloft to a thunderous ovation.

“He’s all about everybody else,” coach Brian Dutcher says. “It’s not about him. And that’s what has made this program so good. Everybody is willing to sacrifice part of themselves for the good of the program and the good of the team.”Asked Wednesday about his legacy at SDSU, Arop paused and said quietly: “I want to be remembered as a great guy, ultimately, a guy who uplifts his teammates. If I’m remembered for that, there’s nothing more I could ask for.

A decade earlier, senior forward Tim Shelton and his old-man knees would ride the exercycle in practice and only play in games when he could, drawing charges and leading the Aztecs to a Mountain West title in 2012. It worked because Shelton had a high basketball IQ, three years of experience in SDSU’s system and an uncanny ability to block out pain when he pulled on a uniform. Dutcher suggested a similar arrangement.

The vertigo subsided. Now it’s his hip, surgically repaired after his freshman year followed by a grueling six-month rehabilitation. Some days it’s stiff. Some days it’s not. The day after games, it always is.
