India is heading into a general election next year, in which Prime Minister Narendra Modi of the Bharatiya Janata Party , in power since 2014, is seen by pundits as likely to win a third term. He gave the example of the Tamil people. “Whether they’re Hindu or Christian or Muslim, they’re also Tamil, sometimes Tamil first.”
