Security forces in Islamabad have forcefully dispersed thousands of protesters supporting jailed former Prime Minister Imran Khan 's party, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI). The protest, which began at the weekend, escalated into clashes with security personnel, resulting in casualties. Khan, who has been detained since August 2023, was accused of being involved in a series of legal cases he considers fabricated to prevent his party's success in the election.
Since the February election, PTI has held several rallies despite a government crackdown. However, this protest was the largest to occur in the capital since the poll.
