JUST IN: The Senate failed to override President Trump's veto on three joint resolutions prohibiting arms sales to Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates
Washington The Senate on Monday failed to override President Donald Trump's veto on three joint resolutions prohibiting arms sales to Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.
The resolutions, which passed Congress with bipartisan support, were viewed as a rebuke of Trump's polices toward the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in the wake of journalist Jamal Khashoggi's murder last year, but senators are not expected to have the votes needed to successfully override the vetoes.Earlier this month, the President vetoed the measures, rejecting an attempt by lawmakers to halt controversial weapons transfers.
