SF Giants place Jose Alvarez on 60-day IL, McGee on waivers.
SAN FRANCISCO — With their pitching depth depleting, the Giants acquired two new pitchers and made two other roster moves in the last 48 hours.
Treatments haven’t been working out for Alvarez, who has been placed on the injured list twice in the last month due to a back impingement and elbow inflammation. His long recovery time prompted a move that allows the team to re-gain some depth. Though there is “nothing new” with Alvarez’s injury. Fletcher, 26, has a 6.94 ERA with the Pirates in a reliever role this year. He spent the two previous seasons with the Seattle Mariners, where he had a 12.38 ERA over 10 games. Kapler said Fletcher’s role is to be determined once they check in with him.
