The Denver Broncos narrowly escaped a nightmarish 0-2 start by defeating the Houston Texans 16-9 on Sunday. It didn’t reflect the dominant showing Broncos fans expected. Denver scored its lone touchdown in the fourth quarter. Broncos quarterbackstruggled, completing less than 50% of his attempts for 219 yards, one touchdown, and one interception. Broncos head coach Nathaniel Hackett appears to be in disarray.
For the second consecutive week, Denver’s performance was spoiled by problematic play calls, red zone ineffectiveness, and several head-scratching penalties. The Broncos were penalized 13 times for 100 yards against the Texans. In their Week 1 loss to Seattle, they racked up 12 penalties for 106 yards. The Broncos lead the league in penalties—an undisciplined squad is a sign of an unprepared coaching staff.
Denver was also whistled for too many men on the field and later Hackett was forced to call timeout when they had too. You’re beginning to witness a theme of sloppiness and head-scratching errors occur with a concerning level of consistency.
