Sickle cell patients no longer have to travel outside of Saskatchewan to access treatment, as a procedure is available by referral.

Sickle cell disease could lead to complications such as acute chest syndrome , stroke and organ failure. The transfusion could provide relief of symptoms and pain and prevent complications, according to the Saskatchewan Health Authority.
