Singapore's Energy Market Authority has announced increased electricity and gas tariffs for Q3 2026, driven by elevated natural gas prices. Average electricity bills for four-room HDB flats will rise by S$17.14, while gas tariffs jump 7.1 percent. Find out what's behind the increases and how households can respond.
Singapore households are facing higher electricity and gas tariff s in the third quarter of 2026, as announced by the Energy Market Authority ( EMA) on Tuesday.
The increase follows earlier rises in natural gas prices, which have driven up the cost of producing electricity and gas locally. For a family living in a four-room HDB flat, the average monthly electricity bill will rise by S$17.14 (US$13.24). The overall electricity tariff, before GST and including non-household rates, will increase by an average of 17 percent compared to the previous quarter.
The gas tariff for households will also go up, rising by 1.56 cents per kWh before GST, from 21.92 cents to 23.48 cents per kWh-a rise of about 7.1 percent. City Energy confirmed the revised gas tariff for the July to September period. EMA explained that Singapore's regulated electricity and town gas tariffs are set quarterly based on gas prices from the first 2.5 months of the preceding quarter.
This means fuel price changes in one quarter only affect tariffs in the next. For example, the April-June 2026 electricity tariffs reflected price movements from February 28 to March 15, 2026-a period that captured the start of the Middle East conflict. SP Group had earlier warned that further increases were likely as the full effect of elevated natural gas prices feeds into future tariff calculations.
Deputy Prime Minister Gan Kim Yong, in a parliamentary statement on April 7, said the July adjustment was expected to fully incorporate higher fuel costs. EMA noted that while the Middle East situation remains uncertain, an improvement could lower fuel prices and subsequently reduce electricity and town gas tariffs in the fourth quarter of 2026. The authority is monitoring supply closely and working with industry to maintain security.
Households have choices: they can buy electricity from SP Group at the regulated quarterly tariff or from retailers offering fixed-price, discount, or time-of-use plans. Those on retail contracts may face higher prices upon renewal, so consumers are advised to select the supply option that best fits their needs. EMA also encourages energy conservation-setting air conditioners to 25°C or higher, turning off unused lights and appliances, and choosing energy-efficient models. These steps can lower bills and support Singapore's energy resilience.
The nation relies heavily on imported natural gas, with about 95 percent of its electricity generated from it. Additionally, as announced by Prime Minister Lawrence Wong in Budget 2026, an extra tranche of U-Save and Service & Conservancy Charges rebates will be disbursed in July to help offset the rising costs
