Archbishop Emeritus Nicholas Chia, the third leader of the Catholic Church in Singapore, passed away peacefully on Tuesday at the age of 86. Cardinal William Goh announced the news on Facebook, stating that arrangements for public respects and funeral proceedings will be announced later. Archbishop Chia served the Catholic Church in Singapore for almost 12 years before being succeeded by Cardinal Goh in 2013.

Earlier on Tuesday, it had posted on its social media channels that archbishop emeritus Chia was"critically ill". Archbishop Chia later went to the Gregorian University in Rome to study in 1969. Back in Singapore, he set up the Singapore Pastoral Institute, serving as its director from 1978 to 1990.
