A 29-year-old trainee surgeon from Singapore pleaded guilty to 13 charges after secretly filming hundreds of people in hospital bathrooms across Melbourne. The case involved major hospitals and impacted up to 400 individuals. He faces a potential jail sentence and has been banned from medical practice.

A trainee surgeon originally from Singapore faced legal consequences in Melbourne after pleading guilty to multiple charges related to the secret filming of hundreds of individuals in hospital bathrooms.

The incidents occurred at major medical facilities including Austin Hospital, Royal Melbourne Hospital, and Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre. The individual, identified as a 29-year-old junior doctor, also filmed a housemate without consent. Authorities discovered a phone concealed in a mesh bag within a staff bathroom at Austin Hospital, leading to his arrest on July 10, 2025. Investigations revealed thousands of videos and images across several devices, potentially affecting up to 400 people.

The charges, initially over 900, were consolidated to 13 counts including stalking, producing an intimate image, and installing an optical surveillance device. His medical license has been suspended by the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency, and he is prohibited from practicing medicine or entering the involved hospital premises. A pre-sentence hearing is scheduled for November, where victims may testify about the impact of his actions.

The prosecutor described the offenses as bordering on obsessive due to the volume of material found. The accused was released on bail, with his parents providing support after they traveled to Singapore where he has been residing since his arrest
