A large wildfire broke out in the area overnight, although local authorities remain mum on any connection between the crash and the blaze. It has since spread across more than 300 acres, according to the forest fire service. Police have yet to confirm the status of the pilot, who was the only person on the plane, according to federal officials. They referred questions about the pilot to local authorities, who did not respond to requests for comment.The FAA previously said the crash occurred Sunday around 2:30 a.m. A local official confirmed that it took a while for emergency responders to locate the downed craft, because it was in a secluded area, which might account for the crash time discrepancy.
Meanwhile, crews are battling a wildfire at the Robert J. Miller Airpark in Lacey Township, which is adjacent to the airport, the New Jersey Forest Fire Service said. The blaze has spread 325 acres and is currently zero percent contained, the forest fire service reported shortly before 3 p.m.Crews have shut down a stretch of Dover Road between Lacey Road and Pinewald Keswick Road as well as the section of Mule Road between Lacey Road and Pinewald Keswick Road.
