A 12-month delay in the hydro project has stoked doubts whether Origin will need to run its Eraring coal power plant beyond the targeted closure date of 2025 to avoid shortages.

Snowy Hydro’s confirmation that its 2000-megawatt pumped hydro project is running 12 months late has stoked calls for the energy market operator to reassess its outlook for supply reliability amid escalating worries that replacement capacity is not being added in time to replace closing coal plants.
