During a state-mandated test, an intruder exposed a security problem that remains at one of the schools.
Brett Cross, father of Uziyah Garcia, who was killed in a mass shooting at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde on May 24, greets people before a Uvalde school board meeting on Monday, Dec. 19, 2022. Interim Superintendent Gary Patterson shared his end-of-year safety report, which included updates on fences, cameras and other security measures.
He also said some of the new security cameras planned for Uvalde schools won’t be installed until the spring, and that a new security operations center won’t be completed until then, either. As required by state law, all districts in Texas are subject to random Texas School Safety Center intruder detection audits. Uvalde was selected for one a couple weeks ago.
About 40 people listened to the presentation, including nearly a dozen family members of victims of the mass shooting.
