SEOUL: South Korea's factory activity shrank for a 10th consecutive month in April and for its longest streak in six years, a survey showed on Tuesday , underlining the weak global demand conditions that continue to undercut the domestic economic recovery.

"April PMI data provided further evidence that South Korean manufacturing firms continued to struggle in the face of the current global economic weakness," said economist Usamah Bhatti at S&P Global Market Intelligence. New export orders fell for the 14th month, at a pace only slightly milder than the month before. The survey noted that sluggish demand in key markets such as China, Japan and Europe contributed to the weakness.
