House Republican Leader Bryan Cutler, R-Lancaster County, said it's time to take a serious look at banning individuals from running for two elective offices simultaneously because of the confusion he has created in the House over which party holds majority control.

The Department of State, which oversees state elections, declined comment on the special election dates due to the pending litigation. She added, “Every Pennsylvanian is entitled to representation — and the will of the people must be respected. The state House must be restored to its full complement as soon as possible, so that lawmakers can get to work for the people of Pennsylvania. That means holding special elections on February 7.”
“Presuming we win [the lawsuit] and I think we will, then these writs would be the ones that we would obviously ask the courts to enforce,” Cutler said. “Leaving that blank or vacant, I think we put the courts in a very bad position to not have an alternative as they read the law and apply it as written.”
