MJ's role in No Way Home saw some big changes.

Spider-Man: No Way Home may have focused on Peter Parker's story, but MJ and Ned Leeds were still central to the adventure. The pair helped Parker and his variants develop cures for their villains, and Ned's new magical abilities came in handy throughout the film. New concept art revealed by illustrator Phil Saunders reveals that MJ was set to have a more hands-on role in No Way Home's epic final battle.
Saunders' concept art shows Tom Holland's Spider-Man and MJ battling Willem Dafoe's Green Goblin together. The scene seems to suggest that MJ would have administered Norman Osborn's cure herself, which makes No Way Home's tragic ending - and its setup for future upcoming Spider-Man movies - even more impactful.
Including this cut scene in Spider-Man: No Way Home would have only made the ending of the Phase 4 film even sadder, however, as MJ's fight scene would have highlighted how far Parker's friends were willing to go to help him. In the theatrical cut, MJ and Ned don't have a great deal to do in the final battle, but the inclusion of this scene would have proved how much they love Parker, which would have only made it even more brutal when Doctor Strange completed his spell.
Why Cutting No Way Home's MJ Fight Makes Sense While this scene might have been a great addition to No Way Home's final battle, Marvel Studios was right to cut it. Having MJ - a human with no superhuman abilities - take down the Green Goblin would have made the iconic villain seem less powerful. On top of this, the moment may have created more of an argument for Parker to remind MJ and Ned of their connection in the film's final moments.
