Spring outfielder Kaeden Bell celebrates with her team after defeating The Woodlands 7-5 in a Region II-6A bi-district softball playoff game Friday, Apr 29, 2022, in The Woodlands.THE WOODLANDS — Spring evened the Region II-6A bi-district series at a game apiece with a 7-5 win over The Woodlands Friday night.
“Credit Spring for battling,” The Woodlands coach Tim Borths said. “We made too many mistakes. We gave up too many unearned runs, and we didn’t make the necessary adjustments at the plate off of Park. Park did a great job spinning it, and keeping us off balance.”“After last night, I knew we were coming in really hungry,” Spring coach Julie Wyrick said. “We haven’t seen what they bring to the table in the last 14 games. It was an eye opener.
Mariah DeBose drew a two-out bases loaded walk in the third, giving Spring a 3-1 lead. Kloey Brenner scored on a wild pitch one batter later to extend the lead to three runs. The Woodlands answered in the bottom of the inning on Alana Leach’s fielder’s choice RBI. Kiara Wiedenhaupt belted a two-out, three-run double to center to put the Highlanders ahead, 5-4.
Spring, which started five freshmen, reclaimed the lead in the fifth when Bell ripped a 1-2 pitch off the left field wall. Bell then scored on a wild pitch to put the Lions up, 7-5.
