Check out these two contrasting, and unexpected, moments during the Springboks' manic World Cup trophy tour across South Africa.
On Friday, the Springboks took their World Cup Trophy Tour to Cape Town, and one special moment saw captain Siya Kolisi make a video call to former professional tennis player Roger Federer.
Federer, who was born to a South African mother and holds dual South African and Swiss nationality, has become a well-known Springbok fan – and is clearly close to Kolisi. The screen from the video call splits to reveal a smiling Federer, who takes a few seconds to take in the festivities before signing off with ‘Amazing, Siya. Well done again. Enjoy it!’
Amidst some of the most amazing moments on the Springbok trophy tour, there was also something else quite bizarre that was spotted, with one video suggesting that someone had tried to steal a replica of the trophy. Whether this was really the case or not is still to be verified, but you can make up your own mind by checking out the video below. The final leg of the trophy tour will be in East London on Sunday, starting and finishing at the Garden Court Hotel from 10h00 until approximately 14h00.
Details on the routes will be posted on the Springboks’ social media channels, as well as updates where necessary, as all the routes and timings are subject to change.. Satellite tours to other population centres in the Free State, North West, Limpopo, Mpumalanga, and Northern Cape, among other places, are in the planning stages, with scheduling contingent on players’ club commitments.
