Data such as photographs will be encrypted and securely stored on the platform, according to NEC.
In an announcement at the end of last week, Tokyo headquartered NEC said that, once implemented, the "opt-in" system would enable Star Alliance customers at participating airports to pass through areas such as check-in kiosks and boarding gates using facial recognition technology. NEC said that data such as photos would be encrypted and "safely stored" in the platform and that passengers could still be required to show their passports "during security and immigration procedures."
