Starbucks switching to paper straws in Japan
Starbucks Corp. SBUX, +0.60% will make the switch to paper straws in Japan starting January 2020, eliminating 200 million single-use plastic straws each year from the 1,500 stores in that country. Standard sized straws will be available in all stores by March and large straws for drinks like frappuccinos will be in stores by May. Starbucks stock has gained 31.3% for the year to date while the S&P 500 index SPX, +0.16% is up 25.3% for the period.
