Strong to Isolated Severe Storms Arrive After Near Record Highs Thursday
Strong to isolated severe storms will be possible Thursday afternoon and Friday. The main hazard for our area will be damaging wind, while the storm system could also bring hail and isolated tornadoes.
Near record highs continue Thursday with late day storms moving into southeast Georgia and then approaching I-10 during the early evening. Rainfall models were rather aggressive this afternoon, but evening updates have reduced those amounts. Models have backed off on some of the estimated rainfall totals, but the timing of severe thunderstorms tomorrow remains consistent with the evening updates. Storms will enter the inland SE GA counties in the afternoon and then move southeastward toward the FL/GA line.
The primary hazard will be damaging wind gusts, although isolated tornadoes and storms with hail will be possible along and north of I-10. Temperatures will be well above normal with highs approaching record levels. Feels Like temperatures will reach the upper 90s across our inland areas.
