“So you make a choice to use the worst day in my daughter’s life just to get into her head so you can win a basketball game?”
Wally Bell, a Major League Baseball umpire, died of a heart attack at age 48, just days after he worked the 2013 National League Division Series playoffs.
The statement from dean of students Eva Chatterjee-Sutton said “members of the W&J community, individually and collectively” apologized to Bell, her team and Westminster. The player’s mother also noted that the Washington & Jefferson athletic director and football coach apologized to her daughter. She and her daughter said the athletic director had been notified of the previous taunting and told them it had been “handled.”Both colleges are in far western Pennsylvania. The women’s basketball teams were playing Saturday for the Presidents’ Athletic Conference championship; W&J won 58-42.
