Niceforo’s 20-year performing career has been quite the ride, from training as an opera singer to launching a solo career to earning a residency with the Castle Loma Symphony Orchestra, which led to a recent performance at Roy Thomson Hall.
The COVID-19 pandemic was hard on so many performers, as venues were shut down for months on end, and Sudbury native Joey Niceforo was left wondering what was next.
The gig has turned out to be a blessing for Niceforo, and he’s expanded his repertoire to everything from Broadway to Edith Piaf. While many performers have day jobs, Niceforo is lucky enough to be earning his living as a singer. “I'm so blessed to come from such an incredible city where everybody seems to support each other,” he said. “That’s what makes Sudbury so special. It’s a real community.”
“And some Bocelli, Broadway, a few new great Broadway pieces. We're going to do ‘Come What May.’ Sara and I did a video that was actually filmed at Castle Loma at 3 a.m., because it was the only time we could go. And we’re going to be doing some ‘Phantom of the Opera’ music. So there's going to be a lot of different music for everybody's tastes.”
