TCU’s high-powered offense will face a stiff challenge in the Fiesta Bowl against Michigan’s stingy defense.
Though it might be easy to call the Fiesta Bowl matchup one of contrasting styles — the speed of TCU against a hard-nosed Michigan team — TCU coach Sonny Dykes said not to discount his team’s ability to win in the trenches.
TCU is nearing the end of what has been an unusual schedule. With its bye week falling after the second game of the season, TCU played games in 11 consecutive weeks. But now after suffering its first loss of the season on Dec. 3 in the Big 12 championship game — a 31-28 overtime defeat at the hands of Kansas State — TCU has a different sort of hurdle to potentially overcome: rust.
Senior offensive tackle Wes Harris sees a scenario in which the loss to Kansas State might serve to benefit TCU, especially after reaching the playoffs despite it.
