The world-first study has researchers hoping the treatment could one day become a “temporary vasectomy”.
A new male contraceptive implant is being trialled in Melbourne in a world-first study that has researchers hopeful the treatment may one day be used as a “temporary vasectomy”.
Lawrentschuk said he was surprised and overwhelmed by the hundreds of Australian men who registered interest in being participants in the trial. Lawrentschuk said it was also an option for men who wanted to avoid getting a sexual partner accidentally pregnant. Lawrentschuk said the sample size would be increased to 50 participants in the first phase of the trial. If the contraceptive implant is found to be effective, a major trial, involving men in Australia and the United States, will be conducted.
