The Texans will pursue a second interview with DeMeco Ryans this week in Houston.

The Texans conducted a second round of interviews with Kafka and Evero last Tuesday. NFL rules prevented the Texans from interviewing Ryans and Gannon a second time until after the NFC Championship Game between the Eagles and 49ers. Ryans holds sentimental value for Texans fans and the McNairs, who think fondly of him. Before Ryans’ coaching career took off, he was drafted in 2006 by the Texans in the second round and spent six seasons with them. He was the 2006 defensive rookie of the year, an All-Pro player in 2007, a team captain and a two-time Pro Bowler.
But with that now in the rearview mirror, four first-round draft picks in the next two years, a much healthier salary cap situation, and a division that many around the league view as winnable, the Texans’ head coaching job has become an attractive one. Since it became known that the Texans had interest in Ryans, multiple figures have voiced their support for him.
