The New Jersey-based retailer is closing two stores in Texas in Amarillo and San Angelo.
Bankruptcy law allows retailers to get out from under leases that are expensive or at stores underperforming the rest of the chain. The New Jersey-based retailer operates 826 U.S. stores, including 85 in Texas. Party City operates 25 stores in Dallas-Fort Worth.that it’s closing 150 stores by March, but it only one local store in Lake Worth.Texas added 650,100 jobs in 2022, more than any state.
After Christmas, retailers evaluate their fleets and decide which ones need to close. Macy’s and J.C. Penney are each closing a few stores, but none in Texas. A record number of stores closed during the pandemic in 2020 and 2021 as several retailers filed for bankruptcy and many liquidated.
