To debut next month, the Model Y is officially estimated to run for an average 315 miles on a charge and achieve a best-in-class combined city/highway 121 MPGe . That just beats out the next most efficient SUV for 2020, the Hyundai Kona Electric at 120 MPGe. Both are estimated to cost $400 a year with 15,000 miles registered in combined city and highway driving at current national average prices for electricity.

The leaders in terms of energy efficiency among electric passenger cars are the Tesla Model 3 at 141 MPGe, followed by the Hyundai Ioniq Electric at 133 MPGe, and the Chevrolet Bolt EV at 118 MPGe.
