The plot revolves around the escalating conflict between the established families, represented by the established van Rhijn-Brook family and their neighbors in New York City in the 1880s, and the new money business owners, represented by the Russell family. The series also explores the social dynamics between the upper and upper middle classes, the Black upper class, and the domestic workers.
As of October 2023, season 3 hasn’t been officially greenlit. The series was renewed for season 2 in February 2022, while the first season 1 was on air. However, the SAG-AFTRA strike is still ongoing, and that likely has played some role in this apparent delay. Moreover, the first season was a critical and commercial success, and HBO might be waiting to see whether season 2 can replicate that before greenlighting the third chapter of the story.
