Councillor raises issues of delays of council playground maintenance
Elected representatives at City Hall this week approved refurbishment works at Grampian Avenue playground, Michelle Baird playground, and Balfour Avenue playground as part of the Playground Improvement Programme 2024-2025. There will be an allocated budget of £580,000.
A council report for the People and Communities Committee states: “Since its inception in 2012, the Playground Refurbishment Programme continues to make a positive impact to the overall quality and play value of the city’s playgrounds, providing new equipment, safety surfacing, boundary fencing, site furniture and landscaping works.
In terms of the five lowest scores, Grampian Avenue came lowest, then Cathedral gardens, then Bridge ENd, then Michelle Baird, then Balfour Avenue at number five. At the People and Communities Committee meeting this week, Sinn Féin Councillor for Black Mountain Micheal Donnelly said: “It is great to see the Playground Improvement Scheme in Northlink, and the site benefitting from great investment. We know the benefit it brings to this community, Vere Foster was one that benefitted the year before.”
