Thunderstorms were possible early Thursday.
What many in the Bay Area may have hoped would be a brief tangle with steamy, muggy air began to finally fade Thursday night after lingering longer than National Weather Service forecasters expected.
The weather service issued a severe weather outlook for Thursday afternoon in Bay Area mountains along the Diablo Range. Forecasters expected thunderstorms through the area, along with areas of heavy rainfall, small hail, lightning and rural flooding. That pattern combined with the normal August heat in the region led to more mugginess than normal and the development of isolated thunder and lightning along isolated areas of the range on Tuesday and Wednesday.
