The Border 2025 program aims to reduce air, water and other sources of pollution along the California-Mexico border
California regulators announced Tuesday the delivery of dozens of new air-quality monitors to Tijuana in an ongoing effort to curb pollution that wafts across the border from factories and trucks.
“This will facilitate the exchange of information on air quality in both regions and will improve our ability to enforce existing regulations on the matter, to prevent negative impacts on the lives of Tijuana residents due to pollution,” Alejandro Muñoz Gil Lamadrid, director of Mexico’s Environmental Protection Directorate, said in a press statement.
“This has an especially heavy impact in the environmentally overburdened communities on the border,” Chanell Fletcher, deputy executive officer with the state air board, said in a statement. “This project can help provide near real-time information, helping to keep the public and border communities aware of local air quality conditions.”Tijuana has said it will share information with California air-quality regulators on any actions taken to reduce emissions.
