UPDATE | A male toddler has died after being shot in a residence on the east side of Indianapolis.
Upon arrival, officers located a male toddler with injuries consistent with gunshot wounds. The child's age will need to be confirmed by the coroner's office.
The child was transported to Riley Hospital in critical condition. Despite life saving efforts, IMPD later confirmed the child died due to his injuries. According to IMPD, the incident was reported as possibly self-inflicted and accidental, but that has not been confirmed. The shooting happened inside a residence. Police are talking to the two adults who were in the home at the time of the shooting. They are believed to be the toddler's parents.IMPD is urging gun owners to be responsible with their firearms so that they do not fall into the hands of people who should not have them, especially children.
