India's Central Board of Secondary Education faces a major crisis as its chairman and secretary are transferred over cybersecurity flaws in a new digital marking system that failed nearly two million high school students. The scandal, sparking nationwide protests and demands for the education minister's resignation, follows a separate NEET exam leak controversy that led to student suicides.

Indian authorities have removed top education officials from the Central Board of Secondary Education ( CBSE ) following widespread outrage over marking failures in high school exams taken by nearly two million students.

The controversy intensified after the board acknowledged cybersecurity vulnerabilities in its new digital marking system, sparking criticism of the CBSE's handling of the exams. The board's chairman Rahul Singh and secretary Himanshu Gupta were transferred to other government departments in an order issued late Tuesday, June 2. Anger erupted last month when cybersecurity researcher Nisarga Adhikary alleged weaknesses in the new system could compromise grading accuracy.

The CBSE had introduced the online system to improve "accuracy and efficiency" of results, but the move backfired. Young Indians are now demanding the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. The satirical online group Cockroach People's Party, which mimics Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Bharatiya Janata Party, has called for peaceful protests in New Delhi on Saturday. Abhijeet Dipke, a 30-year-old Boston University graduate who leads the online movement, plans to return to India to lead demonstrations.

The parody party, launched last month, has gained millions of social media followers. Sonam Wangchuk, a 59-year-old activist from Ladakh who was detained for six months after protests demanding autonomy for the region, also announced he will join the protests. This scandal follows a separate exam controversy last month when the National Eligibility Entrance Test (NEET) for medical colleges was scrapped due to a question paper leak.

The National Testing Agency's leak led to the arrest of a chemistry lecturer identified as the "kingpin.

" Indian media reported multiple teen suicides linked to the NEET fiasco, highlighting the intense pressure on students in one of the world's most competitive education systems
