Trader Joe's dark chocolate has 'unsafe levels of lead, cadmium': lawsuit
A Hershey’s spokesperson told The Post the company can’t comment on pending litigation.In 2001, California passed Proposition 65, a law which set a maximum allowable daily level of lead and cadmium in foods.
Trader Joe’s “Dark Chocolate Lover’s Chocolate 85% Cacao” was found to have excessive levels of both lead and cadmium , according to Consumer Reports.A separate lawsuit was filed last week against The Hershey Company over alleged harmful metals in its dark chocolate.“Exposure to low levels of cadmium in air, food, water, and particularly in tobacco smoke over time may build up cadmium in the kidneys and cause kidney disease and fragile bones,” according to the CDC.
