What to do if you feel obliged to go to a party you don't want to… Definitely tell your partner/friend/whoever you are going to this party with that you're not over the moon to have been invited. It's always better to have an ally before you even get to the venue! Plan an early getaway. And as much as you may be tempted to, don't use booze in the mistaken belief that it will help you bear the unbearable.
Or have a brunch or afternoon tea and invite the"difficult" person to that instead! It means you still see them over the festive season, but not in a situation where anyone might feel trapped.How to avoid stress in the lead-up to Christmas... There's no reason why you shouldn't start buying gifts whenever the sales come up. Better to squirrel potential gifts away during the year, then leave it all to the last moment.
