President Trump said today that Jerome Powell's job is 'safe' — but the Federal Reserve chief has claimed Trump can't dismiss him in the first place
President Donald Trump on Wednesday acknowledged Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell’s job is “safe" even as he continued to batter his handpicked chief of the U.S. central bank.
Trump has long insisted that he has the authority to fire Powell, whom he nominated last fall to replace former Federal Reserve Chairwoman Janet Yellen. Powell, in turn, has said Trump cannot dismiss him and that he intends to serve his full term as chairman.
