President-elect Trump plans to end the CBP One App, which allows migrants to schedule asylum appointments, raising concerns about the future of asylum claims.
With two weeks until President-elect Donald Trump 's inauguration, questions remain about changes to US immigration policies. One concern is the future of the CBP One App, which allows migrants to schedule asylum appointments. President-elect Trump and his border czar, Tom Homan, have vowed to end the app, launched in October 2020, claiming it's used for smuggling.
Pedro Rios, director of the American Friends Service Committee, criticizes the app's limited language support (English, Spanish, Haitian Creole) and accessibility for people with disabilities or limited technology. CBP reports 860,000 successful appointments between January 2023 and October 2023. Rios worries that if the app is eliminated, asylum seekers will resort to more dangerous border crossings
