The discovery of a text from former Fox News host Tucker Carlson led to his dismissal, the New York Times reported on Tuesday.
That was former Fox News anchor Tucker Carlson in an apparent text sent to a producer hours after the deadly attacks on the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021 by supporters of former President Donald Trump, the New York Times reported Tuesday.
In the contents of that text obtained by the newspaper, Carlson discusses how he was watching a street fight in Washington, where “a group of Trump guys surrounded an Antifa kid” and started beating him up. Antifa refers to a U.S. left-wing, anti fascist and anti-racist political movement. According to the Times report, the board of Fox saw the text a day before the company was expected to defend itself in court against a lawsuit by Dominion Voting Systems over defamation charges. Concerns centered on whether Carlson could cause further damage to the company when he was on the stand.
Fox agreed to pay $787.5 million to settle the defamation suit, which involved charges that Fox News baselessly accused Dominion of rigging its voting machines against Trump in 2020.
