Although Van Voorhis wasn’t as renowned as Welles, he had an impressive résumé as a professional narrator. He was especially known for his voiceovers in the “March of Time” newsreels that ran from 1931 to 1945.
How Rod Serling Landed The Twilight Zone Narration Gig Himself Serling initially didn’t want to narrate The Twilight Zone himself. Serling’s only choice for the narrator of The Twilight Zone was Richard Egan . Egan was an iconic actor renowned for his rich, deep voice. Serling reportedly told the network, “It’s Richard Egan or I’ll do the thing myself.” When Egan’s involvement was prevented by contractual issues, Serling had to put his money where his mouth was and do the thing himself.
