U.S. deportations rose 10% in the last three months of 2018, but remain far lower than the peak during the Obama administration
WASHINGTON—The federal government deported 66,549 immigrants in the last three months of 2018, up 10% from the year-earlier period, but the figure remained far below the peak during the Obama administration, according to data released Thursday by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
A greater share of the removals involved arrests by Customs and Border Protection, the agency that polices the U.S. border, said Nathalie Asher, the acting head of the enforcement and removals team at ICE.
