The governing body is trying to convince lawmakers that the women's team is actually paid more than men, and receives more perks. Meanwhile, legislators are proposing an equal pay bill.

If passed, the bill would withhold federal funding for the 2026 World Cup, hosted by the U.S., Canada and Mexico, if the teams aren’t paid equally., U.S. Soccer has denied it hired lobbyists to convince politicians to counter the bill, instead telling the publication that it was trying to give lawmakers “accurate information” about the “unmatched support and investment” the organization has provided the team with.that U.S. Soccer “cherry-picked” the numbers they presented to politicians.

Despite being paid less, the women’s team last year played and won more games—20 matches with 18 wins—compared with 11 games played by the men, who had a record of five losses, three wins and three draws. While women receive a base salary, men are paid for attending training camps, the games they pay and bonuses for those games. But those bonuses can be significantly higher than women’s bonuses.
